Making change at New Years... →
Wishing you all a very happy end of year and beginning of the next. It’s been a busy time so instead of writing a half-arsed New Years message, I’ve found what might be a good article to share. Hope you like it, see you in 2012.

A tricky subject...
Today I’m coming clean. It’s time to use the word often whispered in public, or even not spoken at all: miscarriage.
In the last post I shared some information about first trimester pregnancy. It was open and lucid and overflowing with joy about the upcoming gifts. And then, the very common, and almost disturbingly taboo subject of miscarriage, well… it happened.
This is a...

24/7 on the frontline of humanity
Yes, it’s that time again when we use a quote by a famous person to start a discussion.
It was the Oprah Winfrey show (RIP) and Maria Shriver, the famous Kennedy-blooded, and Schwarzenegger-wedded first lady of California said “…motherhood - 24/7 on the front line of humanity”. And boy, was she right.
The other morning when I fell into rage at my son’s inability...

Mothers - In Full Flight
It might be a long bow I’m pulling here, but I know there’s some pertinent truth in this too, mothers (and the people who support mothers) are so often the women we all count on to get things done. Just look at all the people who want to recruit mums because they know that women with kids can usually almost certainly multi task and can usually be relied on.
It was a while ago...

Simple moments
Some moments are most inspired and complex precisely because they are so simple.
Take for example hanging up your child’s freshly washed clothes in the backyard on a clear autumn night. There’s a multitude of twinkly little stars in the sky, the sounds of the neighborhood all around (be it buses passing, people walking by, or just silence) and the intoxicating smell of clean...

The Gradual Demise of Phillipa Finch /HeartWorks →
Such a very clever lady our Emma Magenta. Just look what she’s done now. The Gradual Demise of Phillipa Finch is a beautiful project employing the web with all its interactivity and allows user interaction which will lead to a real life exhibition. She belongs well and truly in the Lolly Bag for Valentines Day. Happy love day to one and all.

In this entry Cathoel Jorss mentions how there are some simple ways to view what’s going on in our micro-worlds. Surprise, the way we live affects the way we live, it’s almost Escher in action.

today's top tee
Spotted at the Opera House, whilst within the sculpture Mirazoza Architects of the Air for the Sydney Festival, on the tee shirt of a toddler:
“what happens at kindy, stays at kindy”
Wish i had the picture to prove it...
On the back window of an old van, marked in text made with white tape, spotted tonight locally “My other ride is your mum” and “0-100 in 15 minutes”.

TED - What it means to "be a man" →
At TEDWomen, Tony Porter makes a call to men everywhere: Don’t “act like a man.” Telling powerful stories from his own life, he shows how this mentality, drummed into so many men and boys, can lead men to disrespect, mistreat and abuse women and each other. His solution: Break free of the “man box.”
Tony Porter is an educator and activist who is internationally...

Giving →
There’s one thing that kills more women in this country than anything else.
You can help fight it, and help those who are fighting it themselves.
It’s easy. Just give a little.
Then, if you can, give a little more.
Really hope you can help.
Hearty thank yous for your consideration.

Mason Marcobello - HOT new artist to watch! →
urbanuprising:
A few months back we came across a young man who we believe has a HUGE future ahead of him in the art world. We receive alot of artist submissions but Mason’s work stood apart. This young man is an articulate and focused individual with an almost unhealthy obsession with the visual arts.

What I'll do if I'm not smiling about someone
If someone is not inciting smiles when I see their name, or I’m having some kind of serious thought about them, I change their name to something funny in my phone. Like from Richard to Dicko, Bruce Maxwell to Brass Monkey, Josh to Yoshman, or whatever gets me smiling at the time. This immediately lightens and brightens me. It’s simple, subtle, and effective. (I’m easily pleased...
